One of the great things about a Smart Home is everything can be monitored and/or acted on externally or automatically. What I mean by this, is if you are on vacation or if you are out an event, you can be notified that your house is below safe temperature and you should have someone check on it and/or call your heating company to schedule an appointment. If you have other smart items in your house, you could allow the heating company into your house through smart garage doors and give them access to your furnace, without you even being there. Think of the costs and frustration you will incur from a burst pipe!
How does a Smart Home save you money on heat? There are multiple ways it can, but I’ll just name a couple here. One, some of the Thermostats can learn when your home and adapt to when the heat should be set at certain temperatures depending if you are in the house or not. Two, you can connect your thermostat to window/door sensors, where you can make sure if they are left open, not to pump out full heat as it will be wasted.
Another great thing is that since you can see the temperature at all times, you can keep put notifications on if the heat changes drastically, to make sure that someone in the house doesn’t drastically change the temperature without you knowing. These little hacks can save you money, or even if you forget to turn it down when you go on vacation. Now you don’t need the neighbor to come over or pay the extra costs for heating a home that no one is in.
